The Letter

neatly folded so that the first third
faces you unflinching and open
cursive inflected by another world’s calligraphy
indigo-inked and evenly spaced
my father’s letter to my fiancée
accepts the fact of our impending marriage
what adaptability
what pride embedded
in this letter from which we shall not quote
or did already
